FAQ

Can I bring a non-quilter spouse / friend / guest to the Show and Tell Dinner?

Yes, spouses / friends / guests are welcome at all of our events, including bus tours, Glass Bottom Reef Tour, the luau, Poker Night, Dinner and Theater, etc.  We frequently do have several spouses and guests attend these events and they always have a great time.  When you register for Quilting on the Beach, simply indicate the number of people in your party that would like to attend the event.

Do I have to bring a large cutting mat?  What about irons and ironing boards?

Each classroom will have several cutting stations (including cutting mats, rulers, and rotary cutters) and several ironing stations (including ironing board, iron, and spray bottles with water) to share. There’s not usually a wait, but if you would like to have your own personal cutting and / or ironing station at your seat, you are welcome to bring those supplies and there will be room for them at your table.

How is the lighting in the classrooms?

Quilting on the Beach classes are held in the ballrooms of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Lighting is adequate, but many students choose to bring a personal lighting source either for their sewing machine or work space. Battery operated is great, or there will be room to plug in a light if needed.

Can I park at the hotel for classes?

Yes, there is plenty of parking at the hotel. Cost is $5.00 a day for our group. Be sure to bring your parking ticket in with you and stop by the Quilting on the Beach info table (in the lobby right by the classrooms) to get a validation sticker for parking.

What about lunch?

Quilting on the Beach lunch break is from 12:00 noon until 1:30 pm each day.  There are restaurants at the hotel and several more within easy walking distance. You can also choose to bring a lunch and and eat in the lobby outside the classrooms, on the beach, or anywhere on the hotel grounds.  Although we do recommend giving your eyes and shoulders a break, classrooms are open during lunch for those who want to work straight through!

Does the hotel have an airport shuttle?

No, King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel does not have an airport shuttle. Taxis are available from the airport, or you can contact Speedi Shuttle at www.speedishuttle.com or (808) 329-5433.

What do I do when I get there? Where do I check in for Quilting on the Beach?

When you arrive in Kona, please stop by Quilt Passions to pick up a “welcome packet” which will include a name badge, schedule for classes and events, and other goodies. The welcome packet will be ready for pickup beginning Thursday, January 31.  We’ll also bring name badges that haven’t been picked up yet to the Opening Reception.  On class days there will be a Quilting on the Beach info table in the lobby just outside the classrooms if you have any questions or needs.

How far is Quilt Passions from the hotel?

Quilt Passions is located at 75-5706 Kuakini Hwy. Suite 111, just a short walk down Alii Drive from the hotel. Please let us know if you have a mobility issue and we will be happy to give you a ride.

What if I have an “emergency” need for a seam ripper / sewing machine needle / yellow thread during class?

We offer a “necessities store” in the lobby by the classrooms and keep it stocked with all of the essentials as well as any notions or products recommended by the instructors and patterns by our featured designers.  Items can be paid for at the Quilting on the Beach info table. Also, Robert is usually “on call” to fetch something from Quilt Passions if needed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Participants may receive a 90% refund until January 1, 2019. Cancellations between January 1 and January 26 will receive a 50% refund.  After January 26, no refunds will be issued.
